Prompt Injection Is Also an Authorization Problem

Prompt injection is frequently discussed as a language-model vulnerability. But for enterprises, the most consequential failures often occur after malicious text has influenced an agent's behavior and the agent invokes a privileged tool.

Prompt injection is frequently discussed as a language-model vulnerability. But for enterprises, the most consequential failures often occur after malicious text has influenced an agent's behavior and the agent invokes a privileged tool.

The September 2026 SalesBleed disclosures involving Salesforce Agentforce provide a useful example. Researchers demonstrated how attacker-controlled CRM input could influence agent behavior, including data access and interactions with connected systems. The reported vulnerabilities were remediated, and Salesforce stated that it had no evidence of exploitation.

Even with those specific weaknesses addressed, the underlying architectural concern remains. An agent can process data from a less-trusted source while holding permissions acquired through an entirely different trust relationship.

This is why prompt filtering alone is not a complete authorization strategy. A model can misunderstand text, encounter unfamiliar instructions, or behave unexpectedly. The downstream system must still determine whether the resulting requested action is permitted.

In software development, the exposure can involve issues, pull-request descriptions, comments, documentation, or other repository content. A coding agent may legitimately read this material as task context, but that does not mean its author should gain influence over privileged repository operations.

The practical response is layered. Organizations should minimize privileges, constrain agent tools, preserve input provenance, and enforce policies where consequential changes occur.

Authrizd's GitHub-first approach addresses that last requirement: separate the generation of an action from the authority to execute it.
